Five personnel of the Indian Air Force (IAF) lost their lives after an AN-32 transport aircraft crashed at the Jorhat Air Base in Assam, according to Air Force officials.

The tragic accident claimed the lives of five crew members onboard the aircraft. The co-pilot survived the crash and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Court of Inquiry Ordered

Following the incident, the Indian Air Force has ordered a court of inquiry to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Officials said a detailed investigation will examine all aspects of the accident, including technical, operational, and environmental factors that may have contributed to the tragedy.

Rescue and Medical Response

Emergency response teams were immediately deployed after the crash. The injured co-pilot was rescued from the wreckage and shifted to a medical facility for treatment.

Authorities have not yet released details regarding the condition of the surviving officer.

AN-32: A Key Transport Aircraft

The AN-32 is a twin-engine military transport aircraft widely used by the Indian Air Force for logistics, troop movement, and supply missions, particularly in challenging terrains and high-altitude regions.

The aircraft has played a crucial role in supporting military operations and humanitarian missions across the country.

Investigation Underway

The Air Force is expected to conduct a comprehensive examination of flight records, maintenance history, and operational procedures as part of the inquiry.

Further details regarding the cause of the accident and the identities of the deceased personnel are likely to be released after preliminary findings emerge.
