In a major operation against illegal cattle trafficking, Odisha Police have seized gold, silver, cash and assets worth crores of rupees during raids linked to an alleged cattle smuggling network in Mayurbhanj district.
The action was carried out against Uttam Dandapat, who investigators describe as a key figure in an interstate cattle smuggling racket operating through northern Odisha.
Gold, Silver and Cash Recovered During Searches
Police conducted searches at properties associated with the accused in the Jharpokharia police station area of Mayurbhanj district.
During the operation, officials recovered:
- Approximately 200 grams of gold
- Around 500 grams of silver
- Cash worth ₹1.20 lakh
Investigators also identified several landed properties and a large residential building. Preliminary estimates place the value of the residential property at around ₹2 crore.
Smuggling Route Under Investigation
According to police sources, the investigation has revealed a suspected network that allegedly transported cattle from districts including Bhadrak, Balasore, Bargarh and Keonjhar.
Authorities believe the animals were routed through Mayurbhanj before being moved across state borders into West Bengal.
Investigators suspect that Uttam Dandapat played a significant role in coordinating operations within the alleged smuggling network.
Simultaneous Raids Conducted at Multiple Locations
As part of the ongoing crackdown, police teams carried out coordinated raids at seven locations across Mayurbhanj district linked to the accused and his associates.
The operation forms part of a broader effort by law enforcement agencies to dismantle organised cattle trafficking networks operating in the region.
Prime Accused Remains Absconding
Despite the extensive search operations, the main accused has not yet been apprehended and is currently absconding.
Police have launched a manhunt to trace his whereabouts and bring him into custody.
Probe Expands to Other Possible Illegal Activities
Officials have indicated that the investigation will also examine whether the accused was involved in other unlawful activities beyond cattle smuggling.
Authorities are analysing financial records, property holdings and possible links to other individuals connected to the alleged interstate network.
The investigation is expected to continue in the coming days as police seek to identify additional suspects and uncover the full extent of the operation.
Focus on Organised Crime Networks
The latest operation highlights Odisha Police’s ongoing efforts to curb organised criminal activities and strengthen enforcement against illegal interstate trafficking networks.
Further details are likely to emerge as investigators continue examining the assets recovered during the raids and pursue leads related to the broader syndicate.
