In a proactive move to strengthen civic governance, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Sulochana Das conducted a detailed inspection of Ward No. 18 on Thursday, highlighting both development progress and glaring sanitation lapses.

Accompanied by local Corporator Biplab Behera and senior BMC officials, the Mayor visited key locations including Pandara Fish Market, Rasulgarh Crematorium, JJGP Colony Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), and several ongoing development project sites.

During the visit, Mayor Das expressed sharp dissatisfaction upon spotting medical waste scattered outside the JJGP Colony UPHC. Describing the situation as “extremely concerning,” she immediately questioned officials on the regularity of medical waste collection and cleaning routines. She ordered the waste to be cleared on the spot and issued strict instructions to ensure medical premises are kept clean at all times.

Speaking to locals and public representatives, the Mayor emphasised that maintaining a clean city is not solely the administration’s responsibility. “It is the duty of every citizen,” she said, appealing to residents and elected representatives to actively participate in keeping Bhubaneswar clean and beautiful. “Only through joint efforts of the administration and citizens can we build a truly swachh and sundar city,” she added.

The Mayor also reviewed the progress of various development works, listened to public grievances and suggestions, and directed officials to accelerate all ongoing projects for timely completion.

This ward visit underscores the Mayor’s commitment to hands-on governance, blending strict administrative oversight with a strong public appeal for collective civic responsibility.
