The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested Debabrata Dutta, a key accused who had been on the run for years in a major chit-fund fraud case.

Dutta, then proprietor of M/s DNB Food Processing Pvt. Ltd., is alleged to have conspired with others to collect money from unsuspecting depositors and misappropriate ₹17,22,39,453. The agency registered the case as RC 10(S)/2014-Kol and invoked provisions of the Indian Penal Code along with the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978.

Investigators filed a chargesheet on 26 December 2022 declaring Dutta an absconder after he failed to cooperate. A non-bailable warrant followed on 5 August 2024. Acting on specific source information, CBI teams traced him to Siliguri in West Bengal and took him into custody on 28 August 2026.

Dutta is now being moved on transit remand and will be produced before the competent court in Bhubaneswar. The arrest marks a significant step in a case that has lingered for more than a decade, highlighting CBI’s continued pursuit of financial offenders who exploit public trust through unregulated money-circulation schemes.
