Odisha DGP Y.B. Khurania directed the Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) to investigate the custodial death case reported from Barang police station in Cuttack district.

The order followed public outrage after locals discovered the body of a woman near Kathajodi and alleged police negligence.

The HRPC will also examine a related case registered at Cuttack Sadar police station. Allegations surfaced that Barang police brutally assaulted a youth, sparking further anger among residents. Locals surrounded the police station, demanding accountability and strict action against those responsible.

Officials confirmed that HRPC investigators will probe both incidents to determine whether custodial excesses occurred.
