Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep concern following the rescue of five baby orangutans in Baleshwar district.
Taking swift action, the Chief Minister has ordered a comprehensive investigation to uncover the exact circumstances under which these exotic animals were brought into the state.
Despite being occupied with a busy official schedule in Dubai, the Chief Minister has been continuously monitoring the situation. He issued a stern warning that Odisha will under no circumstances be allowed to serve as a transit route for the illegal trafficking of exotic wildlife.
“Any network found to be involved in this illegal transport of foreign wildlife will be identified, and stringent legal action will be taken against them,” the Chief Minister stated.
The mandated investigation aims to clarify multiple critical angles: the specific smuggling route used to bring these rare animals into Odisha, the method of their entry, the individuals or syndicates involved in their transportation, and the ultimate destination or purpose behind the smuggling attempt.
To ensure a thorough inquiry, the Chief Minister has directed state authorities to coordinate closely with the Government of India, the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), and other key wildlife and law enforcement agencies.
While the investigation is underway, CM Majhi has strictly instructed officials to provide the rescued baby orangutans with immediate medical attention, round-the-clock protection, and appropriate care in strict adherence to established wildlife protection protocols.
