President Droupadi Murmu presented the President of India’s Police Colour to the Sikkim Police at Gangtok on May 28, 2026, marking a historic moment for the force.
She congratulated all officers and personnel, past and present, for their dedication to peace, security, and justice since the establishment of the Sikkim Police in 1897.
Addressing the ceremony, President Murmu emphasized that India’s policing system must shed its colonial mindset and evolve into a citizen-oriented institution. She said the police should act as partners and guides for citizens, fostering trust and cooperation.
The President highlighted that transparency and accountability are essential for effective policing. She urged the police to adopt a sensitive approach toward women, children, and vulnerable groups, ensuring that people can register grievances without fear.
She noted that the objective of policing should extend beyond apprehending criminals to building a secure and socially conscious society. By embracing collaboration and empathy, the police can strengthen public confidence and deepen respect for the rule of law.
President Murmu praised the Sikkim Police for maintaining peace and harmony through professionalism and a friendly approach. She said the force has earned the affection and respect of the people of Sikkim through its service and integrity.
