Authorities detained the oil tanker MT Unit at Paradip after a UAE-based fuel supplier, Tresta International FZE, filed a case over unpaid dues exceeding Rs 4 crore.
Acting on the Orissa High Court’s directive, a judicial marshal from Kujang executed the arrest of the vessel.
The tanker had arrived at Paradip port on May 9 carrying crude oil from Russia for Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). The complainant alleged that the ship’s operators failed to clear outstanding payments for bunker fuel supplied in January. The company sought court intervention to detain the vessel until the dues are settled.
Sources said the tanker completed unloading at Paradip’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) facility before the arrest order took effect. Following the court’s directive, the ship remains anchored off Paradip coast under detention. Officials have not yet commented on the matter.
