Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed deep grief over the sudden death of his half-brother Prateek Yadav, remembering him as someone who was extremely health-conscious and determined to build a meaningful life.
Prateek Yadav, the younger son of late SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, passed away at the age of 38 in Lucknow on Wednesday morning. His sudden demise has shocked political circles, business associates, and supporters across Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking to reporters outside the hospital, Akhilesh Yadav said the loss was deeply painful for the family. “I have known him since childhood. He is no longer amongst us; it is a matter of great sorrow. Right from his childhood, he was very conscious of his health, his physical well-being and he aspired to move forward in life and make a meaningful contribution,” Akhilesh said.
According to hospital officials, Prateek was rushed to Lucknow’s Civil Hospital early Wednesday morning after his condition became critical. Despite efforts by doctors, he was declared dead shortly after arrival. Authorities said the exact cause of death would be confirmed after a postmortem examination.
Prateek Yadav largely stayed away from active politics despite belonging to one of India’s most influential political families. Instead, he focused on entrepreneurship, fitness, and social welfare activities. He was associated with the real estate sector and also owned a gym in Lucknow called “The Fitness Planet”.
Apart from business, Prateek was known for his love for animals and charitable work. He actively supported stray animal rescue efforts through his organisation “Jeev Ashray”, which worked for the treatment and care of abandoned dogs.
Prateek was married to Aparna Yadav in 2011. The couple has a daughter together. In recent months, the family had remained in the spotlight due to reports of tension between the two, though no official statement had been issued by the family regarding their personal matters.
As news of Prateek Yadav’s death spread, condolences poured in from leaders across party lines. Supporters gathered outside the hospital and the Yadav family residence to pay tribute.
The passing of Prateek Yadav has once again brought attention to the emotional and personal side of one of Uttar Pradesh’s most prominent political families, with many expressing shock over the sudden loss of someone known for prioritising fitness and healthy living.
