The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will soon open a dedicated “Gupchup Bazaar” in the city, creating an organised vending zone for gupchup vendors.
Preparations for the project are already underway, with the civic body identifying space along the roadside in front of the Regional Institute of Education.
Officials confirmed that the site has undergone beautification, including paving with paver blocks and decorative lighting. In the first phase, the bazaar will accommodate 30 to 40 vendors. Each vendor will receive specially designed trolleys, procured by the BMC to ensure uniformity and hygiene standards. More than 80 customised trolleys have already been prepared for the initiative.
Vendors currently operating in Sahid Nagar, Nicco Park, and nearby localities are expected to shift to the new market. The bazaar aims to provide a wide variety of gupchup items, turning the space into a dedicated destination for the popular street snack. BMC sources said the initiative will streamline vending activities, reduce roadside congestion, and enhance the city’s food culture.
The civic body has not yet finalised charges or fees for vendors using the facilities. However, officials emphasised that the project will benefit both vendors and customers by offering a clean, organised, and vibrant marketplace.
