A former Odisha Special Armed Police (OSAP) constable created panic in Dhenkanal on Saturday after climbing a mobile tower near the Town Police Station and threatening suicide over job reinstatement and financial aid for his mother’s treatment.
The youth has been identified as Rudra Narayan Das of Sogar village under Kamakhyanagar police station limits. Fire services personnel rushed to the spot and began efforts to bring him down safely.
Das joined OSAP in 2018 but fell ill during training and was sent on medical rest. After recovery, he reported back but was dismissed from service. Since then, he has repeatedly approached district administration, departmental authorities, and even the Chief Minister’s office seeking reinstatement, but his pleas went unheard.
He claimed he could not pursue a court case due to a lack of money. Frustrated, he once walked from Dhenkanal to Bhubaneswar to meet the Chief Minister. He also met senior officers of the Battalion, but alleged that no one listened to his grievances.
Das, the only educated son of poor and ailing parents, said he was unable to provide medical treatment for them. He even wrote to the President, Governor, Prime Minister, Chief Minister, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and the district administration seeking permission for euthanasia.
