Forest officials in Nuapada district achieved a major success by arresting seven poachers in Komna while they were distributing wild boar meat.
The raid took place near Kamkeda village forest after a special team received intelligence about the illegal hunting activity.
The poachers had killed two wild boars and were dividing the meat when the forest team struck. Officials seized 45 kilograms of cut meat along with five bows, 21 arrows, and two axes.
The arrested individuals were identified as Sukadev Paharia (33) of Kalimati village, Indraj Paharia (35) of Tukulapada, Suresh Parabhuye (37), Sahadev Parabhuye (23), Arat Paharia, Lalindra Nayak (26), and Chalakata Sabar (65) of Kamkeda.
Senior forest officers, including ACF Mohammad Mustafa Saleha, Ranger Debadatta Sutar, Forester Uttam Meher, Forester Dharmendra Nayak, and Wildlife Warden Mayadhar Saraf, supervised the operation and the post-seizure procedures.
Authorities confirmed that the seven accused were produced in court on Friday. The Komna poaching case highlights the continuing challenge of wildlife protection in Nuapada’s forest areas.
