Nuapada Police achieved a major breakthrough by arresting three accused within 24 hours of a daring gold shop robbery near the police station.
The incident occurred on May 7 when two men entered the “Swarna Lakshmi” jewellery store at Sriram Complex, posing as customers, and forcibly snatched a box containing five gold chains before fleeing in a blue Baleno car without a number plate.
The shop owner chased the vehicle up to the Collectorate but failed to catch the culprits. He immediately reported the matter to the Nuapada Police, which launched a coordinated operation. Special teams collected evidence, shared inputs with border police stations, and set up naka points across strategic locations.
The arrested accused were identified as Pratik Gurjar (25), Rohit Charan (19), and Sandeep Gurjar (24), all residents of Madhya Pradesh’s Neemuch district. Police recovered five gold chains weighing 50 grams worth Rs 7.5 lakh, three mobile phones, a Baleno car, one weapon, Rs 8,460 cash, and three bangles from their possession.
Nuapada SP Amritpal Singh, SDPO Khireswar Sahu, and IIC Gangadhar Meher confirmed the arrests during a press briefing. They said the accused are linked to inter-state robbery and theft cases, and further investigation is underway to trace their wider network.
The accused have been forwarded to court under Nuapada PS Case No. 98/2026 registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
