Mohammed Shami has firmly dismissed retirement speculation, making it clear that he remains motivated despite being out of the Indian national team for over a year.

The pacer last represented India national cricket team during the Champions Trophy final in March 2025. Since then, despite strong domestic performances, he has not been recalled—reportedly due to selection decisions led by Ajit Agarkar.

Strong Domestic Form, Yet No Recall

Shami has been in impressive form in India’s domestic circuit, representing Bengal across tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He picked up 67 wickets during the 2025–26 season, underlining his continued effectiveness.

Despite these performances, the 35-year-old has remained outside the national setup, with emerging pacers seemingly taking priority in team selection.

Clear Stand on Retirement

Addressing speculation around his future, Shami emphasized that retirement is not on his mind.

He stated that he would only consider stepping away from cricket when he feels mentally fatigued or loses interest in the game. According to him, as long as he remains passionate and enjoys playing, he has no intention of retiring.

Focus on IPL 2026 Comeback

Currently representing Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, Shami is focused on delivering strong performances.

After a challenging previous IPL season, he is aiming for a fresh start and is determined to meet expectations with consistent bowling performances.

Determination Over Uncertainty

Shami acknowledged that while he cannot control selection decisions, he remains committed to giving his best on the field. He stressed the importance of maintaining rhythm, preparation, and a positive mindset.

Future Still Open

While questions remain over his return to international cricket, Shami’s statements underline that his career is far from over. With experience, form, and determination still on his side, the seasoned pacer continues to push forward.
