The Odisha Assembly adjourned till 4:00 PM on the fifth day of the budget session after protests erupted over farmers’ concerns.

Odisha Assembly faced disruption for the fourth consecutive day as opposition members stalled proceedings over paddy procurement and farmers’ problems.

On Saturday, opposition legislators from BJD and Congress stormed the House with placards and posters during Question Hour. They raised slogans demanding solutions to farmers’ grievances. Speaker Surama Padhy repeatedly urged members to return to their seats, but the uproar continued.

The House ran for barely ten minutes before the Speaker adjourned it until 11:30 AM. When proceedings resumed, opposition members again created chaos, forcing another adjournment until 4 PM.

Congress leaders accused the government of exploiting farmers and demanded immediate discussion. Rama Chandra Kadam insisted that the government ignored farmers’ plight. He said the ruling party and millers exploited cultivators, and the Assembly protests would continue until the government agreed to discuss the matter. BJD members pressed for solutions to agricultural challenges.

BJP legislator Sanatan Bijuli criticised the opposition, claiming they blocked proceedings deliberately. He argued that Congress and the BJD had joined hands and accused them of being anti-development.

The confrontation highlighted deep divisions in the House. Farmers’ issues dominated the debate, with procurement delays and mandi problems fueling anger. The government expressed readiness for dialogue, but opposition members refused to relent.

The fifth day of the budget session mirrored earlier disruptions, suggesting continued turmoil in the Assembly.
