Elephant herd wreaks havoc in Keonjhar villages
Keonjhar: Elephant herd wreaked havoc in the villages under Champua forest range in Keonjhar district for the consecutive third day.
According to sources, a herd of 12 elephants strayed into the village in search of food two days ago.
However, after the forest officials failed to tranquillise the pachyderms and drive them away from the human settlement, the elephant herd went on a rampage damaging houses.
This apart, the Jumbos damaged the standing crops and also ate the paddy cultivated on acres of land at Sarei village last night.
Reportedly, the herd of elephants have also damaged the house of one Chintamani Mohanta and consumed the paddy stored in the house.
When asked, the forest officials said that the movement of elephants is being constantly monitored, and necessary steps are being taken to deal with the elephant menace and drive them back to the wild.
