At least ten people lost their lives and around forty others sustained injuries after two government buses collided head-on near Thirupathur on Sunday evening.

According to officials, one bus was en route to Karaikudi while the other was travelling towards Madurai when the collision occurred. The impact left several passengers trapped inside the mangled vehicles before local residents and emergency responders pulled them out.

The injured were immediately rushed to Sivagangai Government Hospital, where authorities confirmed that some victims remain in critical condition. Police have launched a probe to determine the cause of the crash, while traffic movement on the route has been temporarily restricted.

Emergency services continue to operate at the site as the state braces for updates on the rising toll.
