In a move aimed at streamlining operations while maintaining affordability, the Ministry of Railways has announced a rationalisation of basic fares across passenger train services, effective from July 1, 2025.

For ordinary class passengers travelling up to 500 km, there will be no increase in fare, ensuring continued budget-friendly travel for short-distance commuters.

Beyond this threshold, nominal increases will apply: ₹5 for 501–1500 km, ₹10 for 1501–2500 km, and ₹15 for 2501–3000 km, specifically in Non-AC Ordinary classes.

The revised per-kilometre fare structure is modest:

  • Ordinary Non-AC classes: up by 0.5 paisa/km
  • Mail/Express Non-AC classes: up by 1 paisa/km
  • All AC classes: up by 2 paisa/km

Importantly, suburban ticket prices and season passes remain untouched, preserving access for daily commuters. Premium trains such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, and Vande Bharat are also included under the updated structure.

The fare update does not affect ancillary charges—reservation fees, surcharges, and GST remain as per existing rules. Tickets booked prior to July 1 will remain valid under current fares.
