A landslide triggered by continuous heavy rainfall struck the Mahurabhandar area inside the Similipal Wildlife Sanctuary in Mayurbhanj district on Sunday, severely affecting road connectivity in the region.
The landslide, a result of intense and prolonged monsoon showers, has obstructed crucial forest routes, hampering both local transportation and access to remote forested areas. Authorities have confirmed that no casualties have been reported so far.
Forest and district officials are currently assessing the damage and working to restore connectivity. Emergency teams have been alerted as the risk of further landslides remains high due to saturated soil and ongoing rainfall.
Similipal, a UNESCO-recognized biosphere reserve, is highly sensitive to climatic changes. The incident has raised concerns over the safety of forest personnel, eco-tourism infrastructure, and wildlife movement in the affected areas.
