Odisha’s Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) confirmed on Saturday that four people have lost their lives across the state due to severe flooding and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall.
At a press conference, officials said three of the fatalities occurred after a devastating landslide in the Raikia area of Kandhamala district. Another death was reported from Gajapati district, where a person died after being swept away while going to defecate amidst rising water levels.
The SRC further highlighted the critical situation at Gidipabali in Bhanjanagar, Ganjam district, which was struck by a severe landslide. As per official estimates, 13 people remain missing under the debris. However, emergency response teams managed a rescue, safely extracting an elderly woman, identified as Tarabati Pradhan, alive from the rubble.
Disaster response forces, including ODRAF and Fire Services personnel, are carrying out extensive search and rescue operations in the affected zones.
The administration is maintaining a strict vigil, providing immediate medical aid, and expediting relief distribution across flood-marred regions.
