Shah Rukh Khan has reaffirmed his unmatched global box office clout after overseas distribution rights for his upcoming action-thriller King were acquired for a staggering ₹175 crore ($18+ million), setting a historic record for Indian cinema.
As reported by Pinkvilla, UAE-based distribution house Phars Films secured the global theatrical rights on a minimum guarantee (MG) basis, surpassing all previous benchmarks for an Indian feature film.
Record Minimum Guarantee Sets Unprecedented Benchmarks
The landmark agreement marks the first time an Indian film has breached the ₹100-crore threshold solely for overseas rights.
While Yash Raj Films historically managed global distribution for Shah Rukh Khan’s massive blockbusters—including 2023’s Pathaan and Jawan—Phars Films acquired the standalone MG rights for King, drawing on its past distribution experience with major titles such as Saaho.
- Overseas Distribution Deal: Acquired by Phars Films for ₹175 crore (Minimum Guarantee).
- Break-Even Target: With overseas distributors traditionally keeping ~50% of box office gross, King must collect $37–$40 million (approx. ₹350–₹375 crore gross) internationally just to break even.
- Benchmark Standard: To generate substantial profits, the film must match or exceed international totals achieved by Pathaan (₹400 crore), Jawan (₹400 crore), RRR (₹430 crore), or Dhurandhar 2 (₹460 crore).
Star-Studded Christmas 2026 Spectacle
Directed by Siddharth Anand—who previously helmed Shah Rukh Khan’s ₹1,000-crore blockbuster Pathaan—King is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on December 24, 2026.
The high-octane project marks Shah Rukh’s first on-screen collaboration with his daughter Suhana Khan, following her acting debut in The Archies (2023).
The ensemble cast features Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Jaideep Ahlawat, Raghav Juyal, and Saurabh Shukla in pivotal roles.
