Kalimela: Police seized 583 kg of ganja from the forest area of Guralur village under Kurumanuru gram panchayat in Malkangiri district on Tuesday and arrested the drug peddler.
The accused has been identified as Dipankar Mali of MV 33 village under Malkangiri Sadar police station limits.
Based on intelligence, the Kalimela police conducted a raid in that area and seized the contraband which was worth over Rs. 30 lakhs. The ganja was packed in about 23 bags. The peddler has been taken into custody.
It is worth mentioning that the contraband was being transferred to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered in the police station and the smuggler has been forwarded to the court.
