Chaos unfolded outside the residence of Chief Minister Mohan Majhi as Youth Congress activists staged a high-voltage protest, hurling eggs and tomatoes at the CM’s home.
The agitators voiced anger over alleged instances of women’s harassment and claimed that the state’s cultural identity—Odia Asmita—was being eroded.
The protest, which erupted in the capital’s secure administrative zone, aimed to breach the security perimeter of the CM’s residence. However, police intervened promptly, detaining several Youth Congress members before they could advance further.
Chanting slogans like “Where is Odia Asmita?” and holding placards condemning alleged administrative neglect, the demonstrators drew attention to recent incidents they believe highlight the mistreatment of women and the need for strong leadership.
Police sources confirm that the detainees were removed to avoid escalation and that law and order remained under control despite the tense standoff.
Analysts say the protest was both a symbolic and strategic move to amplify public discourse on identity politics and gender safety in the state.
