Berhampur: A woman attempted suicide by consuming poison in front of a police station in Ganjam district on Wednesday over alleged harassment by her in-laws for dowry.
The woman identified by her first name, Jhili, consumed poison in front of Chatrapur model police station.
She along with her husband had lodged a complaint in this regard at Chatrapur Police Station on August 2.
As the police did not take any action after repeated complaints, a counseling meeting was held on the premises of the police station. As it failed, Jhili consumed rat poison. She was rescued by Chatrapur Police and admitted to a local hospital. She was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition.
