A wild elephant killed a man in Angul after it invaded Gadatulamul village at night and brought down a wall that crushed him while he slept inside his house.

Arta Bhoi, a resident of the village under the Bantala range, suffered fatal injuries when the elephant damaged his home. Family members and villagers rescued him and rushed him to Angul District Headquarters Hospital, but he died on the way.

The elephant menace has triggered fear and anger among locals. Residents said repeated attacks have destroyed houses and crops, leaving families terrified.

In another incident near Tumuni village under Bantala police station, a 60‑year‑old man named Bandhu Behera sustained serious injuries when an elephant attacked him in a mango orchard. Villagers rescued him and informed forest officials, who shifted him to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

Villagers demanded immediate compensation for Arta Bhoi’s family and urged the Forest Department to drive away elephants roaming near human settlements. They called for stronger measures to prevent further deaths and property loss.
