Exercising its Right of Reply at the United Nations General Assembly’s Fourth Committee, India launched a scathing rebuke against Pakistan on Friday, accusing Islamabad of peddling “lies and falsehoods” while committing grave human rights violations in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK).
Delivering India’s statement, BJP Member of Parliament Mahima Kumari Mewar called on Pakistan to immediately end its military repression, resource exploitation, and brutal suppression of local populations who are currently in “open revolt.”
Rebutting Pakistan’s Kashmir Rhetoric
The sharp response came after Pakistan’s Acting Permanent Representative, Usman Jadoon, attempted to raise the Kashmir issue during the committee’s deliberations on decolonization and special political affairs.
Rejecting Islamabad’s remarks, Mewar—who represents Rajasthan’s Rajsamand constituency in the Lok Sabha—reaffirmed New Delhi’s firm stance:
”Jammu and Kashmir is and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India,” Mewar stated unequivocally. “A country like Pakistan, with an established record of military dictatorship, sham elections, incarceration of popular elected leaders, religious extremism, and sponsoring terrorism as an instrument of state policy, should, in future, refrain from preaching homilies of this sort at this platform.”
Civilian Casualties and Civil Unrest in PoK
Highlighting widespread unrest across Pakistan-occupied territories, Mewar pointed out that local communities have taken to the streets to protest against systemic economic neglect, skyrocketing prices, and state violence.
”In the last few months, the Pakistani armed forces and their proxies have killed dozens of innocent civilians who were agitating for their basic rights, freedoms, and basic necessities,” she emphasized, calling for an immediate halt to ongoing atrocities.
According to reports cited during the session, over 90 civilians have been killed in recent months during demonstrations coordinated by civil society coalitions such as the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), as public anger deepens over military overreach and resource exploitation.
Commitment to Global Decolonization
Addressing the committee’s broader mandate, Mewar reaffirmed India’s historic commitment to worldwide anti-colonial movements, noting that while over 80 nations have attained sovereignty, the global decolonization agenda remains incomplete. She expressed hope that a pragmatic, consensus-driven approach would help fulfill the self-determination aspirations of populations across the remaining 17 non-self-governing territories.
