The title of SS Rajamouli’s much-awaited film Varanasi was revealed during a grand event at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad on Saturday. The launch featured Rajamouli along with the film’s lead stars — Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
However, fans quickly noticed that the first title card of the film did not include the names of the actors. Instead, the poster highlighted the creative team behind the project. This sparked discussions online, but fans familiar with Rajamouli’s style already knew why this happened.
Varanasi Title Poster Highlights Technicians, Not Actors
The three-minute teaser revealed the film’s title and offered a glimpse into its vast world that spans continents and time periods. The final title card featured the line “SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi” followed by credits for the producers, writer K Vijayendra Prasad, music director MM Keeravani, and other technicians.
The names of Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran were intentionally absent. This choice became a major point of discussion on social media, with fans asking why the stars were not acknowledged on the poster.
Fans Already Know Rajamouli’s Signature Style
Long-time followers of Rajamouli quickly clarified the reason. They pointed out that the director rarely includes actor names on posters for his large-scale films. According to fans, Rajamouli wants viewers to connect deeply with the characters and the world he creates, without distractions.
One fan explained, “Rajamouli’s films are bigger than any actor. He wants the audience to remember the characters first.” Another added, “For global viewers, Rajamouli himself is the biggest brand.”
This approach has been consistent since Baahubali and RRR, where the posters also focused more on the world and the creative team rather than the stars.
About Varanasi
In Varanasi, Mahesh Babu plays Rudhra, a dynamic and mysterious character shown riding a bull through the streets of the ancient city. Priyanka Chopra stars as Mandakini, a strong and armed protagonist in a saree. Prithviraj appears as Kumbha, the antagonist who uses a wheelchair.
The film is currently being filmed and is slated for a global release during Sankranthi 2027. With Rajamouli at the helm, the movie is expected to be one of the largest Indian film productions to date.
