Prime Minister Narendra Modi today chaired the fourth special meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to comprehensively review the evolving situation in West Asia and the measures being taken by various ministries to protect India’s strategic interests.

Cabinet Secretary briefed the CCS on the current geopolitical landscape and the proactive steps already underway. Key among them is ensuring uninterrupted supplies of petroleum products, including LNG and LPG, as well as fertilizers critical for the upcoming Rabi season.

Officials reported that LPG procurement sources have been successfully diversified. Stock and supply positions of major petroleum products remain comfortable. Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) refineries are operating at over 100% capacity, thanks to adequate crude oil availability, ensuring steady production of petrol, diesel and other fuels.

Significant progress has also been made on expanding Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections. The government is accelerating industrial substitution of LPG through the National Gas Grid, enhanced LNG import and regasification infrastructure, expanded City Gas Distribution networks, and faster approvals under the Pipeline Infrastructure Order, 2026.

On the agricultural front, the meeting assessed fertilizer requirements for the Rabi season and explored alternative sources. Prime Minister Modi directed that every possible measure be taken to guarantee uninterrupted fertilizer availability for farmers.

The safety of Indian seafarers serving on both domestic and foreign-flagged vessels in conflict zones received special attention. The Prime Minister ordered the creation of a dedicated mechanism to provide timely information, emergency assistance, and counselling support to seafarers and their families.

Reaffirming India’s commitment to its people, PM Modi stressed that all efforts must continue to safeguard Indian citizens and the diaspora from the impact of the ongoing conflict.

Looking beyond immediate crisis management, the Prime Minister underscored the need to accelerate India’s energy independence by strengthening renewable sources, particularly solar energy and other non-fossil fuel options.“A whole-of-government approach must continue,” the Prime Minister said, calling for a unified, coordinated mechanism for real-time monitoring of developments and swift implementation of measures to protect national interests.

The meeting reflected India’s measured yet firm strategy: securing critical supplies, protecting its people, and using the present challenge as further impetus toward long-term energy self-reliance.
