Union Education Minister and Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the Veer Surendra Sai Museum at Dalipara, Sambalpur, calling it a tribute to the legendary freedom fighter’s courage and sacrifice.
He said the museum will inspire future generations to learn about Odisha’s heritage and history. Built through the combined efforts of the state’s Culture and Tourism Department, district administration, and INTACH, the museum showcases rare photographs, artworks, and cultural exhibits linked to Sambalpur’s traditions.
Pradhan noted that the museum features depictions of great personalities and freedom fighters, presenting Sambalpur’s valour and cultural richness. He emphasised that the region’s history dates back over 10,000 years, supported by cave paintings and rock art. He said the shrine of Maa Samaleswari and the Mahanadi basin highlight Sambalpur’s unique identity in agriculture, forests, and folk culture.
During his two-day visit, Pradhan also discussed plans to establish a new Art, Music, and Craft College in Sambalpur. He stressed the need to complete the under-construction auditorium for local artists quickly. He said Sambalpur’s cultural traditions, such as Panchabadiya, Dalkhai, and Rangabati, will be further enriched, with artists receiving proper platforms to showcase their talent.
Pradhan invited students, youth, and residents to visit the museum and connect with the legacy of Veer Surendra Sai. He said the initiative aligns with the National Education Policy’s goal of promoting regional history across India.
