A two-member team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) visited Rayagada district on Tuesday to examine arms and ammunition seized from Maoist hideouts and dumping yards.
The officers inspected the weapons in the presence of district police and collected detailed information about their origin, including the countries where they were manufactured.
Sources said the NIA team focused on verifying technical aspects of the seized arms and later left for another Maoist-prone district to continue their probe. The inspection followed reports linking the weapons to Maoist activities in the region.
Speculation arose that the NIA visit was connected to the Kalyansinghpur mob violence case, but Superintendent of Police Raj Prasad denied this, clarifying that the officers came only for arms verification.
The investigation highlighted the agency’s effort to trace supply chains and understand how Maoist groups acquire weapons. Officials stressed that such checks are crucial for countering insurgency and ensuring security in vulnerable districts.
