Vedanta Aluminium unveils free drinking water facility at Sundargarh bus stand

Bhubaneswar: Owing to the early onset of summer in the region, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has installed a drinking water facility at the Sundargarh bus stand in Odisha, providing access to clean and safe drinking water to over 500 people daily.

Strategically situated at the bustling bus stand, this initiative addresses the requirement for clean drinking water in public spaces. The newly installed drinking water facility is one of the many initiatives of Vedanta Aluminium aimed at enhancing the quality of life while promoting clean water and sanitation practices in the district. The project was inaugurated by Shrimati Kusum Tete, MLA, Sundargarh.

To address the needs of the residents, the mines team of Vedanta Aluminium has previously implemented potable water infrastructure projects in the villages of Jamkhani, Girisima, and Mendra, fostering healthier living conditions. Additionally, the company conducts its annual ‘Jal Sewa Shibir’ in Odisha in the summer months, setting up water kiosks serving at public places for travellers, owing to the extreme weather conditions in the region during that time. Last year, Vedanta Aluminium organized a two-week-long ‘Jal Seva Shibir’ at the Rayagada bus stand in Odisha, where kiosks offered drinking water and lemonade, providing relief against the summer heatwave to over 65,000 people.

Mr. Ratan Sarangi, President, of Sundargarh Private Bus Owner Association, expressed gratitude for Vedanta’s initiative to provide potable water, stating, “The initiative to provide access to clean drinking water for free will greatly benefit the travellers.I thank Vedanta for their valuable contribution.”
