India’s ace badminton player PV Sindhu crashed out of US Open 2023 after losing to China’s Gao Fang Jie in the quarter-finals while Lakshya Sen advanced to the semis with a win over compatriot Sankar Muthusamy.

PV Sindhu went down 22-20, 21-13 against Gao Fang Jie of the People’s Republic of China in the quarter-finals. This was PV Sindhu’s fourth loss to Gao Fang Jie in five head-to-head meetings.

Lakshya Sen, meanwhile, defeated compatriot S Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian 21-10, 21-17 in his last eight encounter. Lakshya Sen won the contest in 38 minutes.

Later in the day, Commonwealth Games 2022 champion Lakshya Sen dominated S Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian and raced to a 7-1 lead early on. Lakshya Sen, who won the Canada Open earlier this month, rode the momentum to take the first game.

Lakshya Sen, currently 12th in the badminton rankings, will face reigning All England champion and world No. 7 Li Shi Feng of China next for a place in the final.

Interestingly, the two shuttlers met in the Canada Open final last week, where Lakshya Sen emerged as the winner. Head-to-head, the Indian holds a 5-3 record over Li Shi Feng.
