A 33-year-old techie from Uttar Pradesh, Mohit Yadav, tragically died by suicide inside a hotel room in Etawah, leaving behind a chilling video message that has reignited a national conversation about mental health, marital harassment, and the lack of legal protections for men in India.

In the video, Yadav accused his wife, Priyanka, and her family of relentless mental harassment, including forcing an abortion and demanding his property. His final request was stark: “Throw my ashes in the drain,” a poignant reflection of the despair he felt.

Yadav’s death comes just months after the high-profile case of Atul Subhash, a 34-year-old Bengaluru techie who also died by suicide in December 2024, leaving a 24-page note detailing similar allegations of harassment by his wife and in-laws.

Both cases have drawn attention to a growing concern: the systemic challenges men face in India when dealing with marital disputes, particularly when laws designed to protect women are allegedly misused.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by Yadav’s brother, the trouble began shortly after Mohit’s marriage to Priyanka in December 2020. Priyanka allegedly took off with gifted jewellery and filed false complaints against Yadav and his family, a pattern of behaviour that mirrors the accusations in the Subhash case. Yadav’s video message explicitly cited the lack of legal recourse for men as a key factor in his decision, stating, “There is no protection for men in this country.”
