In a major development for India’s aviation and infrastructure landscape, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has officially approved a proposal to name the landmark Noida airport as ‘Narendra Modi International Airport’.

The greenfield aviation project, situated in Noida-Jewar, serves as the second international airport for the National Capital Region (NCR) alongside Indira Gandhi International Airport. Officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March, the mega hub represents a transformative engine for trade, connectivity, and economic expansion across northern India.

Honouring Leadership & Cultural Heritage

Addressing journalists during a high-profile press conference in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the Cabinet’s resolution while placing the landmark project within a broader framework of state governance and cultural pride.

Highlighting a series of key heritage initiatives, Adityanath detailed ongoing efforts to honour and elevate Uttar Pradesh’s rich historic identity. Among the prominent milestones noted were:

  • Religious & Cultural Corridors: The grand expansion of the sacred Kashi Vishwanath Temple complex, enhanced by direct connectivity via the Ganga Path, alongside the ceremonial hoisting of a religious flag at a major shrine.

  • Buddhist Circuit Advancement: The historic return and development of Piprahwa within the core Buddhist region, complementing the broader expansion of the state’s Buddhist tourism circuit.

  • Grand Gatherings & Shared Heritage: Preparations and execution for the large-scale celebration of the upcoming Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, as well as the success of the multi-cultural Kashi Tamil Sangamam.

  • Monuments & Memorials: The setup of the Sant Guru Ravidas Museum and statue, alongside the establishment of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Prerna Sthal in Gorakhpur.

The Chief Minister also emphasised national recognition conferred on prominent regional leaders, citing the prestigious Bharat Ratna award presented to former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh as a proud landmark for Uttar Pradesh.

A Modern Aviation Marvel

With the cabinet approval in place, the newly designated Narendra Modi International Airport is set to further solidify NCR’s stance as a global business and transport epicentre. State officials emphasise that the renaming reflects the rapid pace of infrastructure modernisation championed across Uttar Pradesh over recent years.
