The Odisha government has announced plans to launch a new mega-development scheme modelled after the flagship ABADHA (Augmentation of Basic Amenities and Development of Heritage and Architecture) project.
The announcement was made by Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, who highlighted that the proposed initiative will focus specifically on the overall development of Puri, the promotion and global dissemination of Jagannath culture, and the continuous enhancement of temple surroundings and amenities.
Addressing the media, the Law Minister stated that formal processes to conceptualise and execute the project have already been initiated. The upcoming scheme aims to strengthen existing spiritual and urban infrastructure, ensuring seamless facilities for the millions of devotees who visit the holy city every year.
“Work has already commenced to outline this comprehensive plan,” Law Minister Harichandan remarked. He emphasised that the initiative will play a transformative role in upgrading local facilities, preserving sacred heritage sites, and further positioning Puri as a premier world-class spiritual centre.
Local authorities expect that once implemented, the scheme will substantially increase footfall by providing safer, more accessible, and enriched experiences for pilgrims and tourists alike, while giving a strategic boost to the region’s socio-economic landscape.
