UNICEF reported that nearly 200 children have died across the Middle East since the recent escalation involving the United States and Israel against Iran.
The UN agency confirmed that at least 181 children died in Iran, seven in Lebanon, three in Israel, and one in Kuwait.
The organisation stressed that children remain the most vulnerable in times of war. UNICEF stated, “Children do not start wars, but they pay an unacceptably high price.” The agency highlighted that the military escalation has already had a devastating impact on young lives.
UNICEF emphasised that the deaths underline the urgent need for de-escalation and humanitarian protection measures. The agency noted that children not only face direct casualties but also suffer displacement, trauma, and loss of family members.
The conflict has drawn global concern as the humanitarian crisis deepens. UNICEF urged all parties to prioritise the safety of children and ensure access to essential services. The agency reiterated that protecting children must remain a central focus in any response to the ongoing violence.
