'Manifest Courage': Shashi Tharoor Praises Student Activist Neha Bora Following INDIA Bloc's Delhi March

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has publicly lauded student activist and All India Students’ Association (AISA) national president Neha Bora, praising her for her “manifest courage” and commitment during political demonstrations in the national capital.

Tharoor shared a photograph and a warm note on social media following her participation in the INDIA bloc’s ‘March for Democracy’ in New Delhi, which saw opposition leaders and youth activists rally toward the Supreme Court against the Chief Election Commissioner and electoral roll revisions.

High Praise for Student Leadership

Reflecting on their interaction during the march—where Bora travelled alongside senior leadership including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi—Tharoor commended her resilience amidst recent anti-CEC demonstrations:

”Enjoyed meeting @neha_aisa at the INDIA bloc’s #MarchForDemocracy on Monday. I have great respect for her manifest courage — the courage of her convictions. She also takes better selfies than most!”

Bora, a 29-year-old PhD scholar who has emerged as a prominent voice in recent student and youth-led mobilizations, gained widespread visibility after being briefly detained during weekend protests near Jantar Mantar. Despite police actions and administrative crackdowns, her digital calls to regroup galvanized demonstrators across alternative points in the city.

Bridging Traditional and Grassroots Opposition

Tharoor dismissed suggestions of friction or competition between traditional opposition parties and independent student groups like the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) network, framing the collective push as a unified defense of democratic principles.

The convergence of student leaders with senior opposition heavyweights underscores a broader strategy by political parties to integrate grassroots youth movements into formal challenges against regulatory and institutional procedures.
