Fresh details have emerged in the high-profile death case of actor-model Twisha Sharma after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) formally took over the probe and registered an FIR against her husband and mother-in-law.

The FIR, accessed by media reports, alleges repeated dowry demands, mental harassment, and financial abuse following Twisha’s marriage in December last year.

₹2 Lakh Dowry Demand Mentioned in FIR

According to the CBI FIR, Twisha Sharma married advocate Samarth Singh in Noida in December 2025. Her family alleged that they provided gifts and dowry beyond their financial capacity during the wedding ceremony.

The FIR further states that Twisha’s mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, allegedly demanded ₹2 lakh at the time of marriage, which was reportedly paid by Twisha’s family.

Investigators also noted allegations that shortly after the wedding, Twisha was subjected to taunts and pressure regarding dowry by both her husband and mother-in-law, who allegedly expressed dissatisfaction over the expenses incurred during the marriage.

Allegations of Mental and Financial Harassment

The complaint claims that Twisha was denied money for her personal expenses after marriage, forcing her parents to transfer funds to her online for daily needs.

Her family has alleged that from January onwards, she faced continuous mental and physical harassment linked to dowry demands.

The FIR was re-registered by the CBI under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Dowry Prohibition Act after the agency officially took over the investigation from Madhya Pradesh Police.

Twisha Sharma Found Dead in Bhopal

Twisha Sharma was found dead at her residence in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, barely five months after her marriage.

While her family has accused her husband and in-laws of dowry-related harassment leading to her death, the accused side has denied the allegations and claimed that she died by suicide.

Samarth Singh, who was reportedly absconding after the incident, was arrested last week following a 10-day search operation.

Supreme Court Takes Cognisance of Case

The case reached the Supreme Court amid allegations of procedural lapses and concerns over the fairness of the investigation.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi, was informed that the Madhya Pradesh government had already recommended a CBI probe into the matter.

Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh High Court adjourned the hearing on petitions challenging the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh until May 27 after the defence sought additional time to file its response.

Investigation Continues

The CBI is expected to examine digital evidence, financial transactions, phone records, and witness statements as part of its ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death.

The case has sparked widespread public debate over dowry harassment, women’s safety, and accountability within influential families.
