A tragic incident unfolded in Mahishapanda village under Simulia police limits when two people died of electrocution after coming in contact with a live wire laid across farmland to protect crops from cattle.
According to reports, farmer Babulal Das had connected an electric wire around his paddy field to safeguard it from stray cattle. On Saturday, while entering the field, he accidentally touched the wire and suffered a fatal electric shock.
Witnesses said Parbati Munda, an elderly villager living nearby, rushed to rescue him but also came in contact with the wire. Both died instantly at the spot.
Local residents alerted authorities, and fire service personnel along with an ambulance reached the site. The bodies were recovered and sent to Simulia Community Health Centre for post‑mortem.
