A Delhi-bound IndiGo flight carrying around 180 passengers was delayed on Friday morning after a bomb threat triggered a major security response moments before takeoff at Lucknow airport.

The incident prompted authorities to suspend departure procedures and launch an extensive security inspection of the aircraft before eventually determining that the threat was a hoax.

Bomb Threat Triggers Security Alert

The IndiGo flight was scheduled to depart from Lucknow for Delhi at approximately 10:45 am.

According to reports, crew members received information regarding a possible bomb threat shortly before takeoff. As a precaution, the aircraft was immediately held at the apron and prevented from departing.

Security agencies quickly moved into action and began a comprehensive inspection of the aircraft and surrounding operational areas.

Tissue Paper Found Inside Lavatory

The scare reportedly began when a tissue paper bearing the word “bomb” was discovered inside one of the aircraft’s lavatories.

The handwritten message immediately raised concerns and triggered standard aviation security protocols.

Airport authorities, bomb detection teams and security personnel were deployed to thoroughly examine the aircraft.

Flight Grounded During Investigation

Following the alert, passengers remained onboard or were managed according to airport security procedures while officials carried out detailed checks.

The aircraft remained grounded as authorities inspected:

  • Passenger cabin areas
  • Aircraft lavatories
  • Cargo compartments
  • Baggage sections
  • Operational and maintenance zones

The objective was to ensure that no explosive device or suspicious material was present on the aircraft.

Threat Declared a Hoax

After completing the security sweep, officials confirmed that no bomb, explosive device or dangerous substance was found on board.

Authorities subsequently concluded that the threat was a hoax.

Despite the all-clear, aviation security guidelines required the completion of all mandatory procedures before the aircraft could be cleared for further operations.

Passenger Safety Remains Top Priority

Officials emphasized that every threat, regardless of its source or credibility, is treated seriously under aviation security regulations.

Security agencies continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the message and are expected to examine surveillance footage and other evidence to identify the individual responsible.

Similar Incidents Raise Concerns

The latest scare comes amid a series of aviation security incidents involving bomb threat messages and emergency security responses across Indian airports.

Authorities have repeatedly warned that false bomb threats can lead to severe legal consequences, including criminal charges, as they disrupt airport operations, inconvenience passengers and divert security resources.

While the Lucknow-Delhi flight was eventually found to be safe, the incident once again highlighted the strict safety measures followed by airlines and airport authorities to ensure passenger security.
