Iran Gets US Travel Relief Ahead of Crucial FIFA World Cup 2026 Clash Against Egypt

Iran’s national football team has received a significant travel concession from United States authorities ahead of its decisive FIFA World Cup 2026 group-stage match against Egypt.

The US Department of Homeland Security has allowed the Iranian squad to enter the United States two days before the fixture in Seattle, giving the team additional preparation time before one of its most important matches of the tournament.

Iran Granted Extra Time Before Seattle Fixture

According to a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson, the Iranian team will now be permitted to arrive in the United States 48 hours before its June 26 match against Egypt.

Previously, Iran had been allowed to enter the country only 24 hours before each of its World Cup matches due to security protocols.

The spokesperson clarified that while the team has received extra preparation time, existing security measures remain unchanged.

“For the Iranian team’s third match in Seattle on June 26, the team has been permitted to come into the US two days before the match,” the official said.

Authorities also confirmed that Iran will still be required to leave shortly after the match concludes.

Travel Restrictions Remain a Concern

Iran’s World Cup campaign has been affected by travel-related challenges throughout the tournament.

The team’s training base is located in Tijuana, Mexico, requiring repeated cross-border travel for matches hosted in the United States.

Following Iran’s opening game, head coach Amir Ghalenoei publicly expressed frustration over the arrangements, describing his side as one of the most disadvantaged teams participating in the competition.

Iranian football officials have also indicated they may submit a formal complaint to FIFA regarding travel limitations and logistical difficulties faced during the tournament.

Players Seek Equal Treatment

Senior Iranian winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh recently called for equal treatment for all participating nations.

“We don’t ask for much. We just ask for the same procedure as for all the other teams,” he said.

The remarks reflect growing concerns within the Iranian camp about the impact of travel restrictions on player recovery, training schedules and match preparation.

Must-Win Match Against Egypt

Iran now turns its attention to a high-stakes encounter against Egypt in Seattle.

The final group-stage fixture could determine qualification to the knockout rounds, making preparation time particularly valuable.

Interestingly, reports suggest Egypt also faced travel-related complications. Egyptian football officials claimed their request to remain in Seattle after a previous match was denied by local authorities.

Instead, the Egyptian delegation was instructed to return to Spokane before travelling back for the World Cup fixture.

Focus Shifts Back to Football

Despite the off-field challenges, Iran’s players and coaching staff remain focused on securing a positive result against Egypt.

With additional preparation time now approved, the team will hope the travel relief provides a competitive boost as they seek progression to the next stage of FIFA World Cup 2026.

The Seattle showdown is expected to be one of the most closely watched group-stage matches, with both nations battling for a place in the knockout rounds.
