Tokyo Paralympics: Noida DM Suhas LY, Tarun start badminton campaign with wins

Tokyo: Noida District Magistrate and para-badminton player Suhas L Yathiraj on Thursday defeated Jan Niklas Pott of Germany 21-9, 21-3 in men’s singles SL4 – Group A match one of the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics.

Suhas, who has become the first civil servant from the country to represent India in the Tokyo Paralympics, dominated the proceedings and completed the match in 19 minutes with a straight-set victory.

Tarun Dhillon began his Tokyo Paralympics journey with a win. He defeated Thailand’s Siripong Teamarrom 21-7, 21-13 in a group B match that lasted 23 minutes.

While Suhas LY will face Indonesia’s Hary Susanto next, Tarun will be up against Korea’s Shin Kyung Hwan on Friday.

On Wednesday, in an all-Indian affair, top seed Pramod Bhagat defeated Manoj Sarkar in the Group Play Stage – Group A.
