Bhubaneswar: Three engineers of Rayagada Rural Works Division were placed under suspension in connection with the culvert collapse that claimed five lives including four children on Monday.
Executive engineer Pradeep Kumar Mohanty, junior engineer Rajesh Kumar Mandal, assistant executive engineer Muduli Venkat Raman faced the action for dereliction of duty.
They have been asked to remain at the office of Chief Construction Engineer, Rural Works Circle, Sunadeba during suspension period. They will not leave the headquarters without prior permission of authorities, as per an official order.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the concerned contractor at the Kalyansinghpur police station.
A portion of the under-construction culvert in Uparasaja village under Kalayansingpur block in Rayagada district collapsed on Monday. The incident occurred when the children were bathing under the culvert.
Chief Minister announced Rs 4 lakh compensation to each of the bereaved families.
