National Award-winning actor Keerthy Suresh recently shared intimate details about her 15-year relationship and December 2024 marriage to businessman Antony Thattil, reflecting on the initial opposition she faced at home due to their interfaith relationship.
Speaking in an interview with Curly Tales, the 34-year-old actor opened up about family resistance, her long-distance romance, and the moment her mother, veteran actor Menaka, discovered their relationship by reading her personal diary during her college years.
Diary Incident and Interfaith Hurdles
Keerthy recalled starting to date Antony in January 2010, right after completing her 12th grade exams, when she was 17 years old:
- Mother Reading Her Diary: While Keerthy was in college, her mother discovered the relationship after reading her private journal. “She was like, ‘I’m your mother; I can read your diary.’ The worst part is, I stopped writing a diary altogether after that… I have a feeling that my mom burned it,” Keerthy shared.
- Family Hesitation Over Religion: Addressing the challenges of an interfaith marriage, Keerthy admitted that convincing her family required time and patience. “Since he’s a Christian, there obviously were problems at home that I had to face. It took a while for me to convince [my family].”
A 15-Year Romance Built on Distance
Antony, who is seven years older than Keerthy, was working in Qatar when they first met through mutual friends in December 2009. The couple navigated a long-distance relationship for six years while keeping their romance strictly private from the public eye.
After quietly dating for a decade and a half, Keerthy made the relationship Instagram-official in November 2024 before tying the knot in a traditional ceremony in December 2024.
