Confusion surrounds the release of The Kerala Story 2 after the Kerala High Court stayed its theatrical release for 15 days. Despite the order, tickets for the film continue to appear available on select online booking platforms, leaving audiences uncertain about its screening status.

The film, directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, has faced controversy over its subject matter, which touches upon allegations of forced religious conversions.

Tickets Still Available on Booking Platforms

While major national chains such as PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis are not displaying show listings for the film, several theatres in cities like Mumbai and Delhi continued to show available slots as of Friday morning.

On BookMyShow, tickets were reportedly open for booking across multiple theatres, including several Maxus Cinemas locations in Mumbai. In Delhi, select theatres such as M2K, G3S, and MSX Cinemas were still listing the film as scheduled for release.

This discrepancy between the court’s stay and ticket availability has led to confusion among moviegoers.

Mixed Responses From Cinema Chains

Some cinema chains have acknowledged the legal development. Damodar Cinemas posted an advisory stating that the film is “currently on hold due to legal matters.”

However, M2K Cinemas announced early Friday morning that the film had released in theatres, prompting questions from social media users about whether the stay order had been lifted or if communication gaps persist.

As of now, the filmmakers have not issued an official statement clarifying the release status.

What the High Court Said

In its order, the Kerala High Court observed prima facie concerns regarding the certification process by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The court noted the potential for communal disharmony and said that release without further scrutiny could be legally improper.

The court has agreed to hear the producers’ appeal against the stay, raising the possibility of further developments.

What Viewers Should Know

Until there is a formal update from the court or the filmmakers, audiences are advised to:

  • Check directly with individual cinema halls before booking

  • Monitor official announcements from production houses

  • Follow verified updates from court proceedings

The situation remains fluid, and clarity on the film’s theatrical future is expected after further court hearings.
