A day-long search operation along the swirling currents of the Taladanda canal in Cuttack district ended in profound tragedy today as rescue teams recovered the lifeless body of a missing 18-year-old youth.
The deceased has been identified as Aditya Narayan Panda.
According to local reports, the tragedy unfolded when Aditya and a friend went down to the canal to bathe. What was meant to be a simple cooling-off moment quickly spiralled into a nightmare when the powerful currents swept Aditya away, pulling him under.
Upon receiving frantic alerts about the incident, local emergency services and fire personnel rushed to the scene to launch an immediate rescue operation. Divers and search teams scoured the murky waters for hours, but fading daylight and dangerous underwater conditions forced authorities to suspend operations as night fell.
Determined to bring closure to the grieving family, the fire services team resumed their arduous search at dawn. Following hours of intensive sweeping along the canal stretch, divers finally located and recovered Aditya’s body.
The sudden loss of the young life has cast a pall of gloom over the local community, serving as a heartbreaking reminder of the hidden dangers lurking in open canals and water bodies. Local authorities continue to urge residents and youth to exercise extreme caution while venturing near fast-flowing water channels.
