Mumbai Indians (MI) have announced that star batsman Suryakumar Yadav will captain the team in their opening match of IPL 2025.
The match is set to take place against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Chennai on Sunday, March 23.
The decision comes as regular MI captain Hardik Pandya faces an over-rate suspension stemming from the final match of IPL 2024. MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene confirmed the development, stating that the team was officially informed of Hardik’s unavailability for the match.
Hardik expressed confidence in Suryakumar’s leadership, stating, “Surya leads India when I am not there, and he is an ideal choice for this format. He’s an exciting leader and the perfect fit.”
With Suryakumar taking the reins, fans are eagerly anticipating this high-stakes opener between two IPL giants.
