Sundargarh’s Tangarpali Panchayat Samiti Ex-Chairperson, Her Spouse Convicted In Bribery Case

Sundargarh: A Vigilance Court on Monday sentenced the former chairperson of Tangarpali Panchayat Samiti, Smt. Kaushalya Dhurua, to 4 years of imprisonment in connection with a 2014 bribery case.

Vigilance Special Judge today convicted Smt. Kaushalya Dhrua, Ex-Chairperson, Tangarpali Panchayat Samiti, Dist-Sundargarh and his spouse Indramani Dhrua, who were charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance for demand and acceptance of a bribe of Rs.9,000 from a complainant for release of payment of final bills towards three developmental projects executed under MP-LAD fund in 2014

The Hon’ble Court sentenced the ex-Chairperson, Smt. Kaushalya Dhrua, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 4 years and pay a fine of Rs.5,000, and in default of payment of the fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 6 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act,1988.

The Hon’ble Court further sentenced her to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 3 years and pay a fine of Rs.4,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 5 months more for the offence U/s 7 P.C. Act,1988.

Both the sentences are to run concurrently, the court ruled

The Hon’ble Court also sentenced Sri Indramani Dhrua to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 3 years and pay a fine of Rs.5,000 and in default of payment of the fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 6 months more for the offence U/s 12 of PC Act,1988.

Today, the convict Smt. Kaushalya Dhrua, Ex-Chairperson, Tangarpali Panchayat Samiti, Dist-Sundargarh was sent to jail custody to serve her sentence.

Parameswar Kisan, Ex-DSP, Vigilance, Sambalpur Division had investigated the case and Sri Shyam Sundar Mishra, Spl. PP, Vigilance, Sundargarh conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
