Former Odisha Skill Development Authority Chairman Subroto Bagchi has been appointed Chairman of Karnataka’s newly constituted Vision Group for Skill Development, marking a significant step in the State’s skilling roadmap.
The high-level advisory body will provide strategic direction to Karnataka’s skilling ecosystem under the State Skill Policy 2025–32, aimed at building a future-ready, industry-relevant workforce. Officials said Bagchi’s appointment reflects the government’s intent to bring top-level strategic thinking to the initiative.
Bagchi, co-founder of Mindtree, is widely respected for his role in transforming Odisha’s skilling landscape. His leadership in Odisha set benchmarks in institution-building and community-driven skill development.
Reacting to his appointment, Bagchi said, “Humanity today is clearly at an inflexion point… The youth of Karnataka will write a whole new book on skill development.” In a post on X, he added, “Honoured & delighted to be Chairman of the Vision Group on Skill Development. We will build the landing ground for the future to arrive.”
The Vision Group brings together leaders from industry, academia, civil society, and government, joining similar advisory groups in IT, Biotechnology, Startups, and Higher Education. It will advise on emerging priorities, gaps, and interventions to strengthen Karnataka’s skilling ecosystem.
Bagchi is also known for his philanthropic contributions, including Rs 340 crore for Bagchi Sri Shankara Cancer Centre in Bhubaneswar, Rs 212.5 crore for an 800-bed hospital at IISc Bengaluru, and Rs 55 crore for the Bagchi School of Public Health at Ahmedabad University.
