Bhubaneswar: The Southwest Monsoon set in over Odisha on Saturday and covered some parts of Malkangiri, The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The southwest monsoon has made an early arrival in the state this time as per the forecast made by the IMD earlier. Monsoon normally makes an onset over southern parts of Odisha around June 12 and this time it has hit the state around four days in advance.
The northern limit of the monsoon now passes through Baramati, Nizamabad, Sukma, Malkangiri, and Vizianagaram, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar.
The weather agency had earlier stated that conditions were favourable for the early arrival of southwest monsoon in the state.
Sources said conditions are favourable for further advancement of the monsoon into other parts of the state in the next few days after its arrival in Malkangiri.
